The collection
Six pieces from the October kiln.
Each one is thrown by hand, so sizes, speckle and glaze runs vary a little from piece to piece. That is rather the point.
The studio
Two potters, two wheels and one very old kiln.
Kiln & Co. works out of a converted joinery workshop off Clay Lane in Galway. Every piece is thrown, trimmed and glazed here, then fired twice in an electric kiln we bought second-hand and have patched more times than we can count.
We make in small runs of around 140 pieces. When a batch sells out, the next one is usually four weeks away. The studio shop is open on Saturdays if you would rather pick your own.

Throw
Day 1
A weighed ball of speckled stoneware is centred and pulled up into shape on the wheel.
- 02
Trim
Days 2–3
At leather-hard we turn each pot over, carve the foot ring and pull and attach handles.
- 03
Bisque fire
Days 4–7 · 1000°C
A slow first firing drives out the water and turns soft clay into porous bisque.

Glaze
Day 8
Dipped, poured or brushed by hand, using glazes we mix in the studio from raw materials.

Glaze fire
Days 9–10 · 1240°C
The second firing melts the glaze to glass. We open the kiln a day later, once it has cooled.
Hear when the kiln opens.
About once a month we unload a firing and restock the shop. Subscribers get a day's head start. One short email, nothing else.
